Violet’s Chicken Dinner
Yield: 3 cups, 339 calories per cup
Many people think that their cat drinks plenty of fluids, so how could they be dehydrated? In reality, cats are desert animals and should not be drinking a lot of water. They should be getting it from their food. Our recipes allow you to add more water so your cat gets plenty for their kidney health the way nature intended.

Ingredients
- 1 pound of at least 80% lean ground chicken
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
- 1-2 eggs (optional)
- 1 cup water, low salt broth or bone broth (no garlic or onions)
- ½ tsp Holistic Vet Blend Icelandic Omega-3 Fish Oil
-
2 Tbsp/15 grams Holistic Vet Blend Feline Premix or Senior Feline Premix
Directions
- In a tall stock pot, sauté chicken in coconut oil for 6-8 minutes on medium heat. At this point, it's optional to mix in one to two eggs. After 6-8 minutes add broth. Once cooled, add Omega-3 fish oil and premix. Purée with an Immersion blender (a tall pot will keep it from splashing out or use a food processor).
-
I make this for Violet as she has early kidney disease and it’s a way for me to get her fluids. The recipe will solidify when refrigerated.
Additional Tips
- You can use a handheld blender or food processor to blend to a desired consistency.
Turkey and Sardine Pâté
Yield: 3.5 cups, 329 calories per cup
My cats enjoy variety. I rotate sardines in as they love them, and they are packed with nutrition. You can make this recipe with HVB Omega-3 fish oil in place of the sardines.

Ingredients
- 1 pound of at least 85% lean ground turkey
- 2 Tbsp coconut oil
- 4.5 ounce can sardines packed in water
- 1 cup water, low salt broth or bone broth (no garlic or onions)
- ½ tsp Holistic Vet Blend Icelandic Omega-3 Fish Oil
- 2 Tbsp/15 grams Holistic Vet Blend Feline Premix or Senior Feline Premix
Directions
- Melt coconut oil in a deep pot (you will need this if you want to use an immersion blender to make a pâté consistency). You could use a frying pan and transfer it to a food processor to make a more uniform consistency when done.
- Sauté turkey until fully browned (about 8-10 minutes). Add sardines and mix in, making sure to break up large pieces. Turn off heat and add low-salt broth, bone broth or water.
-
Cool the mixture and add Omega-3 fish oil and premix. Use an immersion blender or food processor, to blend contents to a pâté or desired.
Additional Tips
- You can substitute another source of Omega-3's such as fish oil if you prefer.
Violet’s Turkey Florentine
Yield: 4 cups, 245 calories per cup
Spinach is an excellent source of antioxidants, vitamins A, K, B6, B2, and E. Important minerals include magnesium, folate, calcium, and potassium. Could you add a tablespoon or two to the recipe to see how your cat likes it? Spinach has a high percentage of water, so if you want a thicker pate, add less the first time you make it.

Ingredients
- 1 pound 85% lean ground turkey
- 2 Tbsp coconut oil
- 2 ounces spinach (add less water or spinach if you want a thicker pate')
- 1 cup bone broth
- ½ tsp Holistic Vet Blend Icelandic Omega-3 Fish Oil
-
2 Tbsp/15 grams Holistic Vet Blend Feline Premix or Senior Feline Premix
Directions
- Sauté the meat lightly (6-8 minutes) in coconut oil.
- Add spinach and let it wilt in towards the saute's end.
- Turn off the heat and add broth or water.
-
Cool the mixture and add Omega-3 fish oil and premix. Use a hand-held mixer or food processor to blend to desired consistency.
Additional Tips
- If the bone broth or water is chilled, the mixture will cool rapidly so you can add premix and Omega-3s.
Bea’s Beef and Sardines
Yield: 4 cups, 350 calories per cup
I use grass-fed lean beef. Grass-fed has a healthier nutrient and fat profile. You can substitute fish oil for the sardines in water if you like.

Ingredients
- 1 pound 85-90% grass-fed beef
- 2 Tbsp coconut oil
- 1 cup water or bone broth
- 1 tin sardines in water (usually 3.5 ounces) or ½ tsp Holistic Vet Blend Icelandic Omega-3 Fish Oil if you do not wish to add sardines
- 2 Tbsp/15 grams Holistic Vet Blend Feline Premix or Senior Feline Premix
Directions
- Sauté the meat lightly in coconut oil (6-8 minutes). It's optional to add eggs at this point.
- Turn off the heat and add water/broth and Omega-3 source
- Add premix and fish oil when sufficiently cooled.
-
Use a hand-held mixer or food processor to blend to desired consistency.
Additional Tips
- You can add eggs to any of the recipes. Simply add at the end of the saute and allow to fully cook 2-3 minutes.
Basic Raw Recipe
Be sure to use good practices when handling raw meat. Assume it is potentially contaminated with Salmonella, Clostridium, Listeria, E.coli or other potentially pathogenic bacteria.

Ingredients
- 1 pound of ground meat (excluding pork and salmon, which must be cooked)
- 2 Tbsp coconut oil
- ¾ -1 cup pumpkin (instead of water or broth)
- ½ tsp Holistic Vet Blend Icelandic Omega-3 Fish Oil
- 2 Tbsp/15 grams Holistic Vet Blend Feline Premix or Senior Feline Premix
Directions
- Add all of the above ingredients to a food processor or blender. Blend well. To facilitate the blending process, it is helpful to warm the coconut oil slightly.
- I freeze the food in ½ cup servings after I feed the first meal. I don’t like storing raw food in my refrigerator.
Bea’s Grass-Fed Beef with Butternut Squash and Sardines (Raw Recipe)
Yield: 3 cups, 506 calories per cup
Bea loves to eat. She grew up on Holistic Vet Blend and will eat greens or anything I puree and add raw. A kibble has never crossed her lips, and she and Phoenix have the energy to play all day.

Ingredients
- 1 pound of 85% grass-fed beef
- 1 cup cooked butternut squash or squash baby food
- 2 Tbsp coconut oil
- 3.5 ounce tin of sardines in water or ½ tsp Holistic Vet Blend Icelandic Omega-3 Fish Oil if you do not wish to add sardines
-
2 Tbsp/15 grams Holistic Vet Blend Feline Premix or Senior Feline Premix
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the coconut oil, winter squash, fish oil, and premix. It helps if the coconut oil is soft or slightly melted, as it is easier to mix all ingredients when soft.
- Add the meat to the bowl and mix well.
-
Portion out meals and freeze what you do not use that day.
Additional Tips
- A small food processor with at least a 3 cup capacity will facilitate mixing the recipe well.
